Deputy Minister Jeffery on International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights

The Deputy Minister of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, John Jeffery, MP, addressed a national workshop on the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

The purpose of the workshop was todevelop an implementation framework for the ICESCR which was ratified by South Africa on 12 January 2015. The workshop provided an in-depth overview of the ICESCR and the obligations on the State Party as well as the linkages with National Development Plan amongst others.

The South African Human Rights Commission, Foundation for Human Rights, Department of International Relations and Corporation and the Non-Governmental Organisation Coalition were among the participants during the workshop.
